A dental crown is a restorative dental appliance that is used to replace the tooth’s natural crown. There are many reasons a crown may be necessary, including:
While the process of getting a tooth crowned is normally a multiple visit process, at Dr. Lewis’ office, we use the latest CEREC technology. CEREC allows dental practitioners to create dental restorations, like dental crowns, on site. It uses computer-assisted technologies such as 3D photography and CAD/CAM to create crowns, veneers and inlays/onlays on site, saving our patients time. It also allows us to create dental appliances that are made from different type of ceramic material as well.
When a tooth or teeth are missing, a dental bridge helps to add necessary stability to the area. The healthy teeth neighboring the gapped area will have dental crowns installed on them in order to hold the artificial teeth in place. Bridges are an ideal solution for many people with missing teeth, in particular, those patients who are not viable candidates for dental implants.
It is important to replace the missing teeth since it can prevent larger issues from occurring. Without something to take that spot, the neighboring teeth can start to move around, can take on extra stress from additional chewing and lead to larger issues.
